Days ago, BTS shocked its entire fanbase last week after announcing that the Korean supergroup would be taking on an indefinite hiatus.

The news of their hiatus came out of nowhere - saddening fans globally. Good thing they dropped an album right before they break the news.

BTS' "Proof" lands on the top spot of the Billboard 200 all-genre albums chart, making it their sixth album to debut atop the coveted US chart.

Although the album was a compilation album only, "Proof" still managed to generate a whopping number of sales, in the United States.

Luminate reports that the retrospective album generated 314,000 equivalent album units in the United States only, making it the second spot holder of the biggest opening weekend sales for an album to debut at the top of the Billboard charts this year.

It comes in second to Harry Styles' "Harry's House" which opened to 521,00 ea units. Lamar comes in third with 295,000 ea units.

Per Billboard, CD album sales drove the overwhelming majority of the sales with 266,000. Streaming units were around 36,000 while Track units expanded to 12,000 on its opening weekend.

The 35-tracked project was available for digital download and streaming album with 48 tracks on CD, hence the uptick of sales on album sales. The CD edition also has 13 exclusive tracks which were mostly demo recordings.

BTS Hiatus Announcement

The release of the album came four days before the band announced their hiatus.

BTS casually stated they would be embarking on the hiatus to focus more on their solo careers and take a deserve mental health break from performing as a group.

"But right now we've lost our direction and I just want to take some time to think," RM said.

But despite their hiatus, loyal fans of the Korean supergroup still poured out their unwavering support, which prompted the group to launch at the top of the charts.
