A year after "Solar Power" was announced to the world, Lorde finally revealed her true feelings over the backlash she received from critics.

According to NME, the singer's third album, which was dropped in August 2021, received mixed reviews from fans after its release.

The 25-year-old songwriter took to her e-mail newsletter to give an update and share her genuine feelings over the reactions she received.

Lorde began by saying the past year gave her the highest highs and lowest lows she had ever experienced.

"It took people a while to get the album - I still get e-mails every day from people who are just coming around to it now! - and that response was really confounding and at times painful to sit with at first," she said.

Today, the New Zealand singer has learned a lot of lessons on how she's perceived by making and releasing "Solar Power."

She's also more connected and alive in her art practice and life than before.

Lorde then shared a conversation she had with an artist friend, saying her album was one of those works that "gets made between peaks."

"I think this is true of the record. I needed to go low, to roll a neon ball through the tall grass and see what happened," she added.

Playing tracks from the album on her tour helped her make sense to herself and her fans who attended the show in a new and vivid way.

The record also helped her personally as she was able to overcome "some big personal stuff" while traveling and playing shows.

Instead of sitting alone in her hotel room for days while on tour, she chose to go out the door in every city she's performing in to do different activities like walking, eating gelato after dark, going to wine bars, trying on vintage clothes and many more.

As a result, she had gotten better at playing songs in her live shows.

The e-mail was sent to fans as she released a new music video for her song "The Path," which she described as the first chapter in the "Solar Power" story.

She considers her new video a "prequel to the title video."

Earlier this month, the singer said she started writing "nothing but big pop songs" again as they defined her life.
