The man accused of shooting and robbing popular Bronx rapper Lil Tjay was also shot during Wednesday's bloody incident at an Edgewater retail mall, according to a police report. The botched robbery attempt also involved an accomplice, who was also shot.
The two tried to escape despite their wounds, but their escape plan was foiled, since they are now in the custody of the authorities.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by police, Mohamed Konate, 27, was discovered and arrested at a New York City hospital with many gunshot wounds after the 12:04 a.m. incident. According to police, a "unidentified accomplice" fled the scene in a white BMW with the injured Konate and was subsequently caught on security cameras being dropped off in front of Lenox Hill Hospital on the Upper East Side at 12:29 a.m.
According to a witness, Konate was shot and then dragged into the BMW.
Prosecutors charged Konate, a New York City resident, with attempted murder, armed robbery, and firing at the rapper, whose real name is Tione Merritt, as well as Jeffrey Valdez, 24, and Antoine Boyd, 22, who were with him.
According to the complaint, one of the victims told police that Konate approached their red Dodge Durango, pointed a handgun at them, and demanded that they hand over their jewelry.
According to the authorities, two Nike sneakers were located at the scene.

Konate's footwear was not seized by New York police officers, who instead took his apparel from the hospital. According to the police, similar mulch was located on Konate's shirt and in a flowerbed in the parking lot where the shooting occurred.
Boyd was also shot once, and he was charged with improper weapon possession alongside Valdez. According to prosecutors, both are being held at the Bergen County Jail.
On Thursday, prosecutors indicated that Tjay's condition is "serious but stable." Rumors were rife that Lil Tjay died from his severe injuries when there was silence about his true condition. To hear he was alive but could be brain dead is causing mixed emotions. But then, these could be rumors as well.
According to the affidavit, Tjay was shot many times in the thoracic cavity, which houses the heart and lungs.
Tjay has seven million Instagram followers and has released two studio albums on Columbia Records, both of which debuted in the Billboard 200's top five. His 2021 collaboration with singer 6lack, "Calling My Phone," debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
