Kendrick Lamar is one of the most prolific artists of the generation. With his excellent lyricism and elaborate performances - he can fill festivals and sold-out stadium-sized arenas.
Most recently, Lamar closed the last day of the Glastonbury Festival 2022 - with a rousing string of performances from the hits on his most recent album - "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers."
His performance was particularly unforgettable with the spectacle he produced, especially with the message it entailed.
Kendrick Lamar Glastonbury 2022 Performance
Debuting at the Glastonbury 2022 Festival of Contemporary and Performing Arts, Kendrick Lamar is the closing headline act on the festival's 50th anniversary since its foundation.
Along with Lamar, Billie Eilish and Sir Paul McCartney were also headliners on the Pyramid Stage.
Like always, Kendrick Lamar's lyricism has been critically-acclaimed as it touches on social and political commentary and, at the same time, sensitive concepts and issues.
Last Sunday, the Pulitzer-winning artist's closing act stirred headlines with its poignant performance.
Performing what he considers his "favorite" song on his fourth album, "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers," Kendrick Lamar ended his rousing set with a new rendition of "Saviour."
The first thing that many noticed in his performance was the thorned crowned on his head. Vogue confirmed that this is the same crown that the rapper donned on the album art of his most recent album.
Per CNN, Lamar's longtime creative collaborator Dave Free and the jeweler Tiffany & Co. created the titanium and pavé diamond crown Lamar was wearing.
At the end of the performance, Lamar stressed a particular sentiment that many artists have also voiced on the stage - "They judge you, they judge Christ. Godspeed for women's rights."
Kendrick is condemning the recent decision of the United States Supreme Court to overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling, ending the constitutional right of Americans to abortion.
While others seemed to have enjoyed Lamar's performance, others seemed confused about Kendrick's stance on women's rights.
Lamar pointed out initially that the album discloses some of his sexual affairs with other women while staying with his wife.
Others also took a jab at his "blasphemous" performance, noting that it did not make sense since he identifies himself as Jewish.
Kendrick was not the only artist who spoke out against the overturn at the festival - Lorde and Olivia Rodrigo also expressed their stance on the issue.
