Rina Sawayama was victorious over the past two months after releasing her single "This Hell" as a tribute to the LGBTQIA++ community. Recently, she released a new song solely dedicated to her single mother.

According to Hypebae, the British pop star gave fans a glimpse into her personal life as well as her upcoming studio album "Hold The Girl."

Sawayama dropped the track "Catch Me in the Air," which she previously performed live at one of her "Dynasty Tour" shows early this year.

In a press release, the singer said she wanted to write about a "weird relationship with single parents."

Her team added a "key change" in the chorus part and at the end to make it "lift and soar like a bird."

The "F*** This World" hitmaker has worked with Clarence Clarity for her previous projects, but she also collaborated with Stuart Prince for this song.

Speaking about her experience, the singer said it was an incredible experience working with Prince as he's a fan of his work with the biggest stars like Madonna and Kylie Minogue.

In an Instagram post, Sawayama shared a series of throwback photos with her mom while explaining the song in the caption.

"Catch Me In The Air" was written around 2020 to 2021, the beginning of the worldwide pandemic and the time when many people around her were having children or thinking of starting a family.

"It made me think of the pressures that parents go through when raising a child. I put myself in my mum's shoes. I'm nearly her age when she had me," she explained.

Since her parents were separated at a young age, she and her mom lived in London, where they shared a bedroom until she was a teenager.

Despite having a close relationship with "Mama Sawayama," they fought a lot because they came from different cultures.

Her mother grew up in Japan, while the pop star spent almost the entirety of her life in the United Kingdom.

The "Tokyo Love Hotel" songstress explained that the first verse of the song is from a parent's perspective while the second one is from the child's.

Concluding her post, Sawayama revealed the struggles of her mom and how she worked hard when she was younger in order to provide for her family.

"My mum would sleep at 10pm and then wake up at 2Am to start working again. She did this for years, and she would always make me breakfast and pack me off with a cute Japanese lunch. I could NEVER!" she wrote.

"Catch Me In The Air" is available for streaming on different online music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
