Billboard has recently released a list of the defining musical moments of the 2020s decade so far.

While the thread boasts a lot of major moments on the music scene in the past years, some fans are storming to Twitter to disagree on one particular event.

Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion 'WAP' Among Billboard's Top 25 List

Recently, Billboard has listed 25 moments that happened in the past years that they believe have defined the music scene.

Most of the moments were arguably "defining," this includes the death of Pop Smoke, the inaugural launch of VERZUZ, Taylor Swift's surprise Folklore album, and even Lil Nas X's highly-controversial music video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name).

Among the listed moments, one moment has sparked debates on Twitter - Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion releasing WAP and its accompanying music video.

"Beyond yielding Cardi's fourth Hot 100 No. 1 and Megan's second, the collaboration between two of hip-hop's emerging forces - colorfully elucidating what pleases females sexually, much to the consternation of conservative pundits nationwide- was a refreshing respite from that summer's unfolding Covid-19 quarantine drama," Billboard explains its inclusion of WAP.

Despite the heavy and convincing anecdote about the track, netizens are divided about whether it was really a "defining" moment or not.

Fans Divided If 'WAP' Release a Defining Moment Or Not

The reception of netizens on this listing seemed to echo the same reactions that the song received on its released.

"I don't care what fanbase you're part of, but you cannot argue that this wasn't a defining musical moment," one person tweeted.

One even accused that Billboard was paid to include the Hot 100 track on the coveted list.

"Makes sense as the 2020s are horrible," someone tweeted.

But despite the backlash the inclusion of the track received, some pointed out how it made sense on the list.

"Even if you don't like them y'all know damn well this was a massive music moment in 2020," a fan posted.

WAP debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week it was released. To date, it was certified 7x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

BBC, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and NME all ranked WAP as the Best Song of 2020, while Complex hailed its music video as the Best Music Video of 2020.
