Kid Cudi is re-releasing his iconic debut mixtape at the end of the week, but before it hit online, one fan noticed something huge about the recent teaser
"A Kid Named Cudi" is finally debuting on steaming services on Jul. 15, 2022, almost exactly 14 years after it debuted in 2008.
The mixtape introduced the Ohio-born rapper to the hip-hop scene, which piqued the interest of Cudi's now-estranged friend Kanye West.
Kid Cudi's 'A Kid Named Cudi' Changes Album Cover Art
To hype everyone with the re-release of the mixtape, Kid Cudi took to Instagram to launch the new cover art.
"This photo was taken by Mel D Cole on 9.22.08 in NYC. Right before my life changed forever," Kid Cudi announced.
Over to Twitter, Cudi did the same, but only included the schedule of the release. Out of the 230+ replies to the tweet, there has been a particular sentiment that piqued Cudi's attention.
"I'm sorry cud but the og cover too iconic," a fan took notice of the refreshed version of the "A Kid Named Cudi" album art.
Kid Cudi Lashes Out On Fan Over Album Art Critique?
Just like the fan, Cudi was honest in responding to the critique.
Originally the 2008 "A Kid Named Cudi" Album cover art featured Cudi's face placed behind the black and green typeface of the album's title.
But on the re-released version, it was now changed to a monochromatic photo of the rapper sitting on the steps while sporting a plaid shirt with the title bursting in a graffiti-colored logo - a completely different take on the original artwork.
The fan who noticed the change was surprised by Cudi's huge rant.
"yo i never knew you didnt like the original cover. apparently the internet says im still supposed to be sad, so how about some passes to moonman's landing and we talk it out?" the fan rebutted.
Over to the replies section, fans were also shocked at Cudi's clap back, calling the response to the polite critique "completely uncalled for."
"A Kid Named Cudi" will be released on all major streaming platforms on Friday, Jul. 15, 2022, two days before its actual 15-year anniversary on Jul. 17, 2022.
The project's remastered version will include numerous fan favorites such as "Man on the Moon, "The Prayer," and a new intro.
