Ozzy Osbourne once saw the dreaded effect of his past drug use in one of his surgeries.
For years, Osbourne has been successfully keeping himself away from drugs following his long, tough battle with addiction.
But in a new interview with "Sirius XM," he detailed the time that medical staff had to give him four doses of anesthesia just to get him under for surgery.
According to the 73-year-old rocker, the doctor asked him why he was not asleep yet despite receiving the first shot of the drug.
"I had a procedure when I was doing all this s***. The guy putting the stuff in goes, 'How long have you been doing this music?' And I said so many years, and kept talking. And he goes, 'Why aren't you asleep yet?'" he recalled, per Lad Bible.
Due to his past drug use, he had to receive two full syringes of anesthetic just to fall asleep.
According to the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, regular cannabis users tend to need more anesthesia before undergoing medical procedures.
"Since marijuana and anesthesia both affect the central nervous system, people who use marijuana regularly may need different amounts of anesthesia medicines," Dr. David Hepner wrote. "In order to know which medicines and how much to use, your doctor needs to know ahead of time how much and how often you use marijuana."
Ozzy Osbourne Still Bought Marijuana After Getting Sober
During the same interview, he told the host that he recently spent around $1,000 on legal cannabis from a ship near his Los Angeles home.
Still, in the end, he decided not to smoke any of them - although he was close to doing so.
At that time, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and could not take the marijuana at all.
Aside from fighting his desire to smoke, he has also been dealing with health issues recently.
Before his interview, his wife Sharon revealed on "The Talk" that she would return to Los Angeles to be with her husband's side during his major operation. At that time, she revealed that it would determine the rest of his life.
Osbourne received surgery that allowed his doctors to realign the pins in his neck and back after his 2019 fall. It was tricky since he would need a lengthy amount of recuperation due to his age, and the nature of the surgery made it risky.
Luckily, he survived the procedure.
