French Montana is not mincing his words on his most recent jab against music labels for allegedly profiting musicians.

The "Unforgettable" rapper pointed out the sudden trend among music labels who were allegedly taking out life insurance on their deals with musicians and rappers alike.

An "unprecedented rate" of murders involving musicians and rappers spiked earlier this year, which continued from last year.

French Montana Accuses Music Label For Life Insurance Ploy

Speaking to the "Off The Record" podcast recently, French Montana said that because of the rising death toll among artists and musicians in the past few months, labels reportedly took out the life insurance policies for their artists.

"We was beefing for real. People was dying and this and that, and it was blocking a lot of money. People didn't want to touch you. Your rap friends stop picking up, the labels stop picking up. It gets crazy. But now it's even crazier, they gettin' life insurance on artist. At least back then, we didn't have that. You're praying on his death. You're praying on making millions on his death," Montana claims.

According to the rapper, music labels are "expecting a big payday" if their artists get murdered.

Elsewhere in the interview, Montana was asked if labels are signing their artists in "good faith" if they take out the insurance, or were they actually being realistic.

For the 37-year-old rapper, he thinks that it is "both."

"They're being realistic. You're supposed to have life insurance anyway, but when the label does it, if you don't have one that's crazy," he added.

Rapper Deaths in the Past Years

In the past few years, several musicians and rappers in the industry have been tragically gunned down or murdered.

Rising New York rapper Chii Wvttz was fatally shot outside a music studio in New York last February. But days before that, Brooklyn rapper TDott Woo was also murdered hours after inking his first music deal with a label.

Because of the troubling rate in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams launched a full-blown attack on Drill rap music in the city, planning ways to curb the rap subgenre that reportedly leads to gang violence.

Last year, Pop Smoke, who was at the forefront of the drill rap scene, was killed at a home invasion in Los Angeles, California.

Drakeo the Ruler, on the other hand, was stabbed to death backstage at the Once Upon A Time In LA Music Festival.
