Wolfgang Van Halen has been accused of hating his late father, Eddie Van Halen.

Following Eddie's death, fans expected his son, Wolfgang, to continue his legacy. He has been on his Mammoth WVH shows, but the public noticed that he never performed any of the band's songs.

Thus, it caused people to assume that he hates his father.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Wolfgang set the record straight and dismissed the claims that he does not like his father.

"It's like, 'It's my f-cking name! Why would I hate it? It's my dad! I love my dad! I was in the f-cking band! I don't hate it at all. ... All I've ever said is I don't want to play Van Halen music at Mammoth shows. I'd rather bomb with my stuff than gain attention for playing Dad's," he said, as quoted by Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture.

Wolfgang told the news outlet that he once covered Alice in Chain's "Them Bones." But before playing it, everybody in the venue said "Van Halen!"

He immediately told them he was not going to play a Van Halen song but assured them that he loves the band.

According to the musician, performing a Van Halen song at a Mammoth show is like hearing Nirvana at a Foo Fighters concert.

With that, he firmly told the crowd not to expect Van Halen from a Mammoth concert.

"Just because you should never say never. But also don't take what I'm saying right now to go 'Oh, man, they're gonna play Van Halen!' I would say like if I happen to play one Van Halen song at one show in the next 15 years, don't come back to me like an asshole and go, 'Well, you said you hated Van Halen!'" he continued.

Eddie Van Halen's Death Remembered

The legendary singer passed away in 2020 after his battle with throat cancer. Eddie reportedly endured the dreaded disease for decades.

"He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off stage was a gift," Wolfgang said in his heartfelt tribute. "My heart is broken and I don't think I'll ever fully recover from this loss."

A news outlet reported that he died at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica in the U.S. The hospital doctors discovered that the throat cancer had spread to his brain and other organs.

Prior to his death, he had been in and out of the hospital due to intestinal issues. He even underwent chemotherapy before his death. In addition, he flew back and forth from the US and Germany for five years to receive his radiation treatment.

In addition, Wolfgang revealed on "The Howard Stern Show" that his father was also diagnosed with lung cancer and brain tumor.
