Remember 2010's biggest rap song, "Monster"? '
The iconic collaboration between Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Jay-Z, among many others, almost did not come to life, Amber Rose recently revealed.
The new confession came weeks after Nicki Minaj subtly shaded Kanye West during her Essence Festival set after stopping the DJ from playing "Monster."
Amber Rose Explains Nicki Minaj's Verse on 'Monster'
In Kanye West's 2010 album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," among the biggest tracks that the project has released was the mega collaboration between him, Jay-Z, Bon Iver, Rick Ross, and a starting Nicki Minaj.
Speaking recently to The Ringer's Higher Learning, Kanye West's ex-girlfriend Amber Rose claims that she was the person responsible for putting Minaj on the now-iconic track.
At the time that Rose learned of Nicki Minaj, the Trinidadian-born rapper was basically unknown to Kanye too.
"I had Nicki pull up to the studio and I put her on 'Monster.' She was still coming up and I saw her in the studio and I was like, 'Oh my god this bitch is fucking talented as hell,' and then I went back to Kanye and I was like, 'You need to get this girl Nicki on 'Monster,' and he was like, 'Who? What? No,'" Amber Rose recounted.
But despite Kanye's hesitation at the time, Amber Rose's insistence won, and Nicki was included on the track.
However, in a shocking revelation, Amber says that Kanye realized that Minaj was too good on her "Monster" verse he wanted to remove her from the collaboration.
Apparently, West realized that Minaj was too good on her "Monster" verse.
"He said, 'How the f*ck did you bring in a bitch that killed me on my own song?'" the television personality recalled.
Despite the track only ranking No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song received overwhelming praises from critics, artists, and fans alike, mostly because of Nicki Minaj's verse.
Recently, GRAMMY-winning artist Adele broke the internet after famously rapping Nicki's "Monster" verse on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke. Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, and even Troye Sivan rap the "Pink Friday" hitmaker's line at their concert.
Amber Rose has long been a fan of Nicki Minaj. In a 2018 Complex interview, she recalled the "Monster" encounter again, professing that she had "believed in Nicki from the beginning."
However, fans believe Nicki is straying away from "Monster" as on her Essence Festival set; she asked the DJ to stop playing the track.
"A monster though! A monster, though! But we don't f--- with clowns," Nicki quipped while grinning, which fans believed to be a slight jab at Kanye.
Nicki Minaj is due to release her highly-anticipated song, "Freaky Girl," soon after getting posthumous approval from Rick James for the sample. The song is registered on Shazam already.
