In concerts and festivals, security measures are thought to be the highest priority, especially nowadays. Bag screening and checking are by far the most basic step any concert organizer has to put in place.
This, however, does not seem to be the case at Dua Lipa's concert in Toronto, Canada. Last Wednesday night, a fan has smuggled fireworks inside the venue.
Smuggling it inside a packed venue is one thing and might pose a safety threat, but the fan actually lighted it - which set the crowd in a dazed panic with the popping lights in close proximity.
Dua Lipa Fan Smuggle, Set Off Fireworks on Toronto Concert
Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" Tour kicked off at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, last Wednesday night.
The concert, as usual, was breathtaking in Dua Lipa fashion, riddled with lights and spectacle.
However, towards the end of her concert, her fans were met with a literal explosion of colors as fireworks smuggled inside the venue lit off and sparkled onto the indoor venue - injuring others.
As seen in the video, the short fireworks display started on the floor, which seemed to be vacant of people, flowing until the upper and lower box part of the center of the arena.
According to City News, Toronto Police reported that three fans sustained minor injuries because of the fireworks explosion. Medics assigned to the Dua Lipa concert have treated the fans and have not required further medical assistance.
Based on the fan accounts as reported by local media, the crowd "frantically" dispersed after the fireworks lit off.
The initial explosion left a handful of concertgoers with small burn marks on their legs and shoes - what a remembrance.
Dua Lipa Concert Security Team At Fault After Smuggled Fireworks Explosion
Aside from the accounts of the attendees, there is an emerging story that the concert security did not even check bags before the concert.
"the security last night for the premium gate barely checked any of the bags ,, they didn't even look or touch mine or my friends. they just seemed so rushed. please get this fixed asap - it could've been bad last night, thankfully it was "only" fireworks and nothing worse," a fan shared on Twitter.
Others are also echoing the same observation - that the security team employed in the venue has failed to conduct the most basic security check on fans.
As of this writing, Dua Lipa has not addressed nor spoken about the matter yet. Local police are still investigating the matter as no person of interest has been revealed to the public yet.
Earlier this week, Dua Lipa is nominated for the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. Bagging five nods, including Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for "Cold Heart" and "Sweetest Pie."
