The Red Hot Chili Peppers members are not afraid to show their soft side as drummer Chad Smith became emotional on their recent show; what happened to the musician?

According to Billboard, the legendary rockers performed at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday evening.

The drummer grew up in the suburb of Bloomfield Hills in the city while another member, Anothony Kiedis, spent his early days in Grand Rapids.

During the show, their mothers Joan and Peggy were among the crowd as well as other family members.

After the concert wrapped up with the song "By the Way," Smith stood up from his drum kit to address the 33,000 concertgoers.

The musician became emotional when he thanked the Detroit natives who watched the band perform.

"it means the world to us that you've supported us all these years, and it means the world to a little kid growing up not too far from here to come play this amazing stadium," he said.

Even though he's been in the industry for decades, Smith still couldn't believe that his dream came true.

His mom went up on stage while sitting in a wheelchair as fans started to cheer by giving her a standing ovation from the massive crowd.

Smith isn't the only one who thanked fans as bassist Flea also addressed the crowd earlier that evening.

Chad Smith Expected Sunday's Show to be Emotional

Speaking to the outlet before the show, Smith said the Red Hot Chili Peppers show in Michigan was going to be their biggest one and he also expected it to be emotional.

"It's very sentimental for me now. I sound like an old fart, but it does have a good, warm feeling. And I think of my (late) dad, who would take us to games and he would just love this. He wouldn't believe it," he said.

The rock band's next show would be at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersy, on August 17.

The North American leg for their Global Stadium Tour will wrap up at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas on October 16.
