ASAP Rocky is being charged with two counts of assault over the highly-controversial shooting that happened in November that left ASAP Relli wounded. If proven guilty of the charges, he could be facing a long time in prison.
Last April, ASAP Rocky was arrested in a dramatic turn of events at Los Angeles International Airport after returning home from a vacation trip in Barbados.
The then-anonymous shooting victim was finally revealed last year as ASAP Relli came forward to officially file a civil suit for assault on his now estranged best friend, ASAP Rocky.
ASAP Rocky Facing 9 Years in Prison If Proven Guilty of Assault Charges on ASAP Relli
According to Rolling Stone, ASAP Rocky has now been officially charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, including allegations of personally using a firearm.
"Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood," Los Angeles County District Attorney Gascón said in a statement.
Per the District Attorney's office, their review of evidence on the ASAP Rocky shooting case determined that the special firearm allegation was warranted.
California laws define assault with a firearm as assaulting a victim with the use of a pistol, rifle, shotgun, semiautomatic firearm, machine gun, .50 BMG rifle, or any assault weapon. This may take the form of pointing the firearm at the victim, striking or "pistol-whipping" the victim, firing the gun at the victim, or actually shooting the victim. (via California Shouse Law)
In California, assault with a generic firearm with a maximum of 4 years in prison. But in ASAP Rocky's case, he was using a semiautomatic firearm.
Should he be proven guilty, ASAP Rocky could be facing a minimum of 3 years to a maximum of 9 years in prison, apart from a possible hefty fine.
Upon his arrest in LAX, ASAP Rocky immediately posted $500,000 to get out of jail.
ASAP Rocky, ASAP Relli Misunderstanding Caused Him to Shoot Former Bestfriend?
In an exclusive article that Rolling Stone published last week, ASAP Relli, Rocky's best friend, was the person the rapper shot in November.
Relli's accounts say that Rocky "lured" him to a shady place in Hollywood to discuss a disagreement.
Unknown to him, his estranged best friend was carrying a semi-automatic fire gun and intentionally fired multiple shots at him, leaving him with physical, mental, and emotional injuries, and piling death threats from the rapper's fans.
As of this writing, ASAP Rocky's team has yet to respond to the charges official filed against them.
