What exactly happened to Zack de la Rocha?
Last month, Rage Against the Machine's fans got worried when de la Rocha told the crowd that he injured his leg while performing the band's rendition of "Bullet In The Head." He and the band did not disclose what happened to him, but their friend recently disclosed the exact injury he sustained.
On Instagram, photographer Glen E. Friedman revealed that de la Rocha's injury was a torn Achilles heel tendon. He also expressed how grateful he is to see him perform again at Madison Square Garden despite injuring himself.
"Even having to sit during the performance, Zack De La Rocha showed the world what they had been missing in all the years he had been away from this incredible group of musicians. Zack 'brought it' like few other ever have or ever could. Integrity, and heart, the touchstones of the most important and greatest," he went on.
Johns Hopkins Medicine's Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine, lists surgical treatment and non-surgical options for patients who sustained the injury. It also reveals that some patients think it may be best not to undergo surgery and allow their tendons to heal naturally.
The update came after de la Rocha told the crowd of their show at Chicago's United Center that they would continue performing despite the incident involving his leg. Rolling Stone noted that it seemingly occurred when the singer jumped up and down while singing the climax of "Bullet In The Head."
Zack de la Rocha's Injury Forced Postponement of Public Service Announcement Tour
A week ago, Rage Against The Machine announced that the band canceled its 2020 UK tour and Public Service Announcement dates in Europe due to de la Rocha's current state.
The singer was also advised to rest following the injury.

It was not the first time he injured himself during their concert, though. In August 1997, he also injured his ankle when he jumped onto a speaker while performing "Bombtrack" at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
According to Blabbermouth, Friedman's recent post initially described the vocalist's injury as a torn ACL, but it has since been edited to say that it's his Achilles instead.
