Geezer Butler missed the recent Black Sabbath reunion due to a heartbreaking reason.
Black Sabbath fans witnessed Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi's performance during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. They played alongside Adam Wakeman and drummer Tommy Clufetos, making queries about Butler's whereabouts emerge.
Iommi explained the absence of the band's bass player in an interview with Birmingham Live. Per the lead guitarist, he did not think Butler would want to perform with them due to a heartbreaking reason.
"I don't think he wanted to come over as he hadn't been well with Covid. He'd been on holiday to Kenya and to Italy and had had an accident on a boat, cracking or breaking a rib about three weeks ago, so he was not quite in fine fettle to come over to play," he said.
Iommi added that they had been talking about performing together at the Commonwealth Games for a long time. Unfortunately, they did not complete the lineup this time.
This somewhat resonated with what Osbourne told ITV in the past. The rocker said he had been wanting to play during the opening ceremony of the 2022 Games - with or without Black Sabbath.
As for Bill Ward, he revealed to Classic Rock that he had been suffering because of his absence from the rock band's farewell project in 2021.
Will Black Sabbath Reunite Again?
Osbourne and Iommi's performance sparked buzzes that Black Sabbath might do a reunion tour again.
However, Sharon Osbourne's husband already clarified to Louder's Paul Brannigan in the upcoming issue of Classic Rock that, "Sabbath are over" since they already made their mark.
Black Sabbath originally called it quits in 2017, 49 years since its debut. They posted the "obituary" on Facebook alongside the hashtag #TheEnd.

Fans, at that time, offered mixed reactions as some of them still wanted to see them perform again. But most of the supporters chose to leave heartfelt messages to thank them.
One said, "Thanks for all the great music over the years. Maybe retired, but NEVER, EVER FORGOTTEN!! Godfathers of Metal....."
"I'm glad I could see You in Cracow last summer. That was my only Sabbath' show, so powerful and incredible, it made me believe You could still eat most of younger bands on breakfast. Please, for all Your work, take my greatest thanks! And I agree with others, that You'll stay forever. Because You created metal and metal is eternal," another wrote.
