Demi Lovato will not confirm that her new track "29" is about her age difference with ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, but she believes the song speaks for itself.

"I would be lying if I said I didn't have a ton of anxiety about putting out this song," the singer, 29, told Zane Lowe in an Apple Music interview Wednesday. "I just said, 'I have to go for this. I have to own my truth.'"

Lovato, who dated Valderrama from 2010 until 2016, remarked that "less is often more."

The former Disney Channel star explained, "I'm very careful with the way that I answer these questions because I feel like the song says it all. ... I don't have to say too much, to be honest."

The "That '70s Show" alum was 29 years old when he met the then-17-year-old "Camp Rock" star.
"Finally 29 / Funny, just like you were you at the time," she sings. "Thought it was a teenage dream / Just a fantasy / But was it yours or was it mine?"

After calling herself "too young to drink wine," Lovato belts, "Just five years of bleeders, student and a teacher / Far from innocent / What the f-k's consent? / Numbers told you not to / But that didn't stop you.
When asked by Lowe about the insightful lyrics, the Grammy nominee stated that her recent 29th birthday gave her fresh "perspective."

"Turning 29 really opened my eyes," she explained. "Then, entering treatment and coming to realizations led to my change and the discharge of the emotion contained in this song," she said.
Lovato stated in her 2017 documentary "Simply Complicated" that she "began dating" Valderrama when she turned 18.

After their separation, the former pair remained friendly, with the pop-rock artist revealing that her heart would "always" belong to the "NCIS" star.

"You don't share six years with somebody and not give them a piece of your heart and vice versa," she told viewers. "I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to meet anybody that compares to him."

Lovato told Harper's Bazaar that they were no longer "in one other's life" after wishing her now-42-year-old ex "the best of luck" upon his 2020 engagement to Amanda Pacheco.

Prior to the split, Demi Lovato talked about the age gap in a more positive manner - which is understandable given the fact that she was still very much in love.

"Of course, I was like, 'Oh my god. You're so attractive,'" she told Complex in 2015. "And he was like, 'You are not 18. Get away from me.' Then we became really good friends, and he was there for me through a number of situations and breakups and whatever. Then as I got older and we grew closer, it was like, 'Hey, maybe we should try this thing out.' We did, and we've basically been together ever since.'"
