Rihanna has dropped something redfire interesting, but fans are not quite sure how to take it. Some are in awe, some are confused, and others are simply pissed that she dropped this first instead of her highly-awaited album.
"Ketchup or makeup?"
With her most recent Fenty Beauty launch, Rihanna wants to engage her audience in a game of speculation. The 34-year-old beauty maven and the art collective MSCHF have collaborated on a limited-edition palette ($25) that includes "six packets that each contain either ketchup or lip gloss."
Both Fenty and MSCHF shared images promoting the launch on Instagram, showing girls with eye makeup reminiscent of Twiggy and either beautifully painted lips with Rihanna's gloss or messy mouths covered in ketchup. One image shows a model dipping a french fry into her sauced lips. Since the collective was established by Gabriel Whaley in 2016, MSCHF has released 83 pieces of merchandise.
This odd version of Russian Roulette is the group's 83rd release (note: there is no assurance on the product's website that any of the packets will definitely contain lip gloss). MSCHF has established a reputation for releasing new stunt items every two weeks and frequently working with celebrities.
Their stunt products range from "Eat the Rich" popsicles that are meant to resemble famous billionaires to bongs made out of rubber chicken toys.
This latest drop split fans, who voiced their opinions in the comments area of Fenty Beauty's Instagram announcement post.
One person commented who would even want to spend $25 on ketchup packets, while one joked that maybe Rihanna is still on maternity leave and another person signed this launch off.
One seems interested to buy but just cannot understand what would happen if the product is already in her hands.
"Are the packets resealable if it is gloss?" inquired this person. She added that she has a lot of questions.
Despite this general interest and intrigue about the product, many are more annoyed that Rihanna has dropped something that is yet again, unrelated to her music. Naturally, fans can understand that she's a busy mom and has a business empire to run, but they became fans in the first place because of her music and voice.
"Literally everything but music," one commenter said, obviously annoyed that Rihanna is prioritizing her makeup line over her supposed-to-be ninth studio album.
With outfits ranging from vibrant vintage Chanel to completely sheer Dior, the "Umbrella" singer regularly dazzled audiences while pregnant, and her postpartum looks haven't disappointed either. The A-lister most recently wore a black satin cone bra and matching lace-up leggings for a night out at Carbone, a restaurant beloved by celebrities, where she probably ate something nicer than french fried sauce.
