Mariah Carey is not one to mince her words, and Meghan Markle has a firsthand experience of it. In fact, she reportedly got a bit miffed and uncomfortable because the diva just labeled her as a... diva too.
They say it takes on to know one, after all.
Meghan Markle released the second episode of her Spotify podcast Archetypes on August 29, with Mariah Carey as her guest this time. The Duchess of Sussex, age 41, spoke with the artist, age 53, for a conversation titled "The Duality of Diva," in which they discussed the negative modern implications of the word "diva" and being multiracial. Carey mentioned that she moved more than a dozen times during her childhood and had to adapt to each new beginning while growing up with little.
Meghan Markle and her "Archetype" podcast listeners "began to sweat" after Mariah Carey accused the Duchess of Sussex on Tuesday's edition of having "diva moments."
Carey, 53, interjected when Markle, 41, told her guest that she did not personally "identify to" the "diva... character." "You give us diva moments sometimes, Meghan," the singer said. "Don't act like [you don't]."
The "Suits" alum appeared flustered, asking, "What kind of diva moments did I give you?" Carey stressed that she was referring to Markle's "visuals" and not her personality, stating that she "didn't mean" anything and was "playing" with the former actress.
Markle expressed relief following the conclusion of the interview. She said Carey must have felt that she said something to make the ex-Royal a bit uneasy, because she immediately had to clarify what her diva comment meant. Instead of talking about her actual attitude, which can be deemed negative, Carey was pertaining to her attire, posture, and apparel."
"She meant diva as a compliment, but I heard it as a dig," the duchess continued. "That moment, as she explained to me, she meant it as chic, as inspirational." Prior to Carey setting the record straight, Markle was "quietly rebelling in her chair" at the accusation.
She was a bit panicking trying to determine what fake news or "nonsense" that Carey had read about her. Markle added that for a while, she thought that her "girl crush" would be shattered into bits.
Earlier in the program, the author of "Bench" explained to Carey how important the Grammy winner's career was to her as a biracial child.
