Willow Smith recently revealed that his decision to venture into a somewhat unusual genre had met a similar fate to her mom Jada Pinkett-Smith when she was also in the music industry.

"Coping Mechanism," Smith's fifth album, is announced to have been mainly rock, a sideway trajectory from "Lately I Feel Everything's" pop-rock sound.

Her mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who has been on the receiving end of controversy following Will Smith's infamous Oscars slap, apparently had a similar encounter that Willow has revealed to have happened to her too.

Willow Smith's New Album 'Coping Mechanism' Pushback

According to Newsweek, Willow Smith's upcoming new album, "Coping Mechanism," has received pushback from Willow Smith's producer.

Smith revealed the information to the publication, noting that the pushback was a result of her wanting to go to rock music.

With the current state of the album, it would seem like the plan materialized after all, despite the alleged pushback from music execs.

Smith stressed some valid points against the hesitation for her to venture into rock music.

"When I wanted to do a rock album, there were a lot of executives that were like, 'Hmm...If I had been white, it would've been completely fine; but because I'm Black it's, 'Well... maybe let's just not'-and making it harder than it needs to be. If I go through that, every single other Black artist is getting the pushback [too]," Willow elaborated in an interview with Glamour.

Apparently, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow's mother, had also experienced the same thing in 2005.

At the time, Jada and her nu-metal band Wicked Wisdom wanted to join the Ozzfest Music Festival 2005. However, the supposed support that they wanted was the complete opposite of what they had received.

Per Willow, her mom received death threats and even hard criticism from those who did not want them to be included in the scene.

"Yo! People are really upset about this, they're mad that a Black woman wants to do metal and is in the space." She pauses before continuing. "Like that was activism," the "Whip My Hair" hitmaker said.

Willow Smith's new album, "Coping Mechanism," is coming on September 23. Its lead single, "hover like a GODDESS," is already out on streaming services.
