"The Music Man" is taking their final bow at the Winter Garden Theatre on the first day of 2023, marking the end of the 2022 Broadway revival of the iconic musical.

Tony winners Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman play the lead stars in the Meredith Wilson musical - both nominated for Best Performance for Actor and Actress in a Leading Role.

Although the real reason why the production has been put to halt, sources say that it is highly likely that a couple of things could have caused it, including the lead actor himself.

'The Music Man' Ends 2022 Broadway Revival Production

According to Variety, "The Music Man" will finally take its last curtain call on New Year's Day on January 1, 2023, at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway.

Since its opening night, entertainment icon Hugh Jackman has been the lead star on the bill, canceling a few times because of COVID-19-related issues.

Apparently, Hugh Jackman's commitment to the musical ends on the same day. Insider chatter has indicated that the producers for the show are looking for a possible replacement, but based on the new decision, it would seem like they had failed to do so.

Why Is 'The Music Man' Ending Soon?

Sadly, because the production could not find someone to fill Hugh Jackman's shoes in playing Professor Henry Hill, the show comes to a close too.

Per Theatremania, the mixed reviews on the musical might also have something to do with the huge company decision.

Turns out, the show did not live up to "Hello, Dolly!" which is another revival that Tony-winning Jerry Zaks has also mounted. Zaks led the highly-anticipated revival of "The Music Man" too.

"It's a perfectly enjoyable, not life-changing staging of a classic musical, and if you're looking for a night out that takes you away from the February doldrums, however briefly, this Music Man is a sight for sore eyes. But if you're looking for a Music Man that makes you want to stand up and cheer, this ain't it," Theatremania reviewed at the time.

The 2022 Broadway revival of "The Music Man" was nominated for six nominations in the last Tony Awards - Best Choreography, Best Costume Design of a Musical, and Best Revival of a Musical.

Sutton Foster, Hugh Jackman, and Jayne Houdysell also received nods for Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.

Despite the six huge nominations, "The Music Man" failed to take home any Tony that night.
