Joe Trohman is giving fans a glimpse of his personal life as he recently published a memoir, but little did his supporters know that his book was conceived out of ego; how did all of this happen?
Speaking to BuzzFeed News to promote his book, the lead guitarist, who also established a metal band called the Damned Things, published "None of This Rocks," a memoir that revolves around the stories of his life.
Throughout the book, he detailed his relationship with his bandmates in Fall Out Boy as well as his personal struggles during the 80s to 90s growing up with a mentally ill mother.
The outlet noted that Trohman's book didn't sugarcoat any details from his life as he also discussed the misogyny and racism within the punk scene.
Joe Trohman Never Wanted to Write a Memoir
When asked how the idea came to fruition, the musician said he initially never wanted to write a memoir despite being tapped by other writers because he "hated the idea."
In addition, he never thought that his life was interesting.
Years later, his literary manager told him to write a book about himself, to which he replied "Ew. No way." The man told him that he didn't think he could do it.
His ego later came back, saying that he could accomplish writing a memoir about himself.
Explaining how the title "None of this Rocks" happened, Trohman said he assumed the publisher wanted to change it, but they ended up liking it.
The title came from the thought of him not being a rockstar as he sees himself as a "dorky dad with bad tattoos."
Despite talking about personal details in the book regarding the people close to him, Trohman said the family he has left was very supportive of him even his children.
Fall Out Boy also got his back whenever he does things outside the band as they all try to "back each other up on 'extracurriculars.'"
"They trusted the book was not to be some gross exposé on the inner workings of Fall Out Boy... They knew it was going to be a me-centric thing," he said.
Joe Trohman's "None of This Rocks" memoir will be available starting September 13 via Hachette Books. His memoir comes in three different forms, an e-book, hardcover, and audiobook.
The book is also available via Amazon, Apple Books, Barns & Noble, and more.
