Jesse Powell has apparently died according to a statement made by his family on social media.
The R&B singer passed just a day after turning 51.
Powell passed away at his Los Angeles home in the 1990s following the publication of his self-titled first album. As of this writing, the reason of death remains unknown.
In a moving Instagram message, his sister Tamara Powell asked for privacy while they grieved their loss and celebrated the singer's "everlasting legacy."
"Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him."
Jesse Powell, who was born and reared in Indiana, rose to fame after his debut album and its lead hit, "You," were released in 1996.
He co-wrote and produced the song with Carl Roland, and it debuted at number 59 on the US Billboard Chart right away. When it was re-released in 1999, it had even more success.
The song "You" made a comeback on Jesse Powell's second album, "'Bout It," and it quickly became the most popular of his career, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list. Even on the Billboard Hot 100, it made up to 10thspot.
Even at the time of writing, "You" has around 13 million streams on Spotify.
His subsequent song releases were met with relatively modest critical acclaim, and the most of them even failed to have the same economic success.
Sadly, Jesse Powell's fourth album, "Jesse," did not place on the US Album Chart; instead, his third album, "JP," peaked at position 79.
Powell wasn't married and didn't have any children at the time of his death.
