Coolio died tragically at the age of 59, and the cause of death is still unknown.
In an interview with The Sun, the famed rapper's son, Artis Ivey III, who is also named after him, spoke about his father's untimely and sudden death.
Despite fighting many health concerns before to his death, Coolio died with "no fear" and a "smile" on his face, according to Artis.
The tearful 33-year-old spoke from his Los Angeles home, claiming Coolio's death came as a total shock, despite knowing his father had no fear of the hereafter.
On September 28, 2022, the "Gangsta's Paradise" hitmaker was discovered unresponsive on a bathroom floor at a friend's residence. After 45 minutes of trying to resuscitate him, emergency responders declared him dead.
The rapper's death occurred on Artis' birthday, and he stated that they had spoken earlier in the week and were scheduled to speak again that night.
Coolio had "very terrible asthma," according to Artis, and despite being in and out of rehab for drug addiction, he is sure that this had nothing to do with his father's death.
"He was for the most part drug free, but my dad lived for the day, everyone in life has their vices, but those vices never really affected him as a father or a man. He died of natural causes. He just had a heart attack."
Despite the fact that it was a total shock to his family, he stated that Coolio had always prepared them for situations like this, even his death, characterizing him as a "very spiritual guy."
"He held his own set of ideas; he believed in a higher power and in himself."
"He had a smile on his face when it was checkout time," Artis added, "and that's all that matters."
Coolio not only accepted death, but he also wrote about it in a song that made him famous.
In "Gangsta's Paradise," he sang about how his time on this world may be short.
Now, the rapper's family wants to memorialize him the way he always planned: by holding a massive celebration to which everyone, including his followers, is invited.
The Ivey family is considering holding a tribute, a live event, or something magnificent at Hollywood's Kodak Theater.
