The past few weeks have been very eventful for Nicki Minaj, with a massive Twitter fight with Latto that stemmed from the "Super Freaky Girl" GRAMMY controversy; Barbz are in need of a light moment - and that happened in the most surprising manner.
Nicki Minaj has always frequented Instagram's live feature - going on live for hours just to talk to her loyal fanbase, the Barbz, or just to speak her mind and or kill time.
Usually, Nicki's guests are either other artists, or she just goes solo.
In her recent Instagram live, Nicki was visited by what seemed to be her former fifth-grade teacher. The encounter was one of a kind reunion - something like what Adele had at her concert last year.
Liz Smith-Breslin was Nicki's fifth-grade teacher, who, at one point, she considered someone who changed her life.
In the touching reunion, Liz recalled the moment she found out that her student was already hitting it big.
Unknowingly, Smith attended a Jay-Z and Eminem concert with her sisters, where they were "dancing and singing." It was only a matter of days before she found out that it was her student, after all.
"I did not know that Nicki was Onika," Smith said.
Smith found out that Onika was Nicki when at her school, she was repeatedly called by E! True Hollywood Story, hoping for a statement or an interview, as she was "Nicki Minaj's favorite teacher."
She also went on to recall that when it all clicked in, she dropped the phone and realized together that Nicki Minaj was actually a former student of hers named Onika Maraj. Smith said that she screamed downstairs and gushed at her husband about Minaj before she gave footage and photos of Nicki in elementary plays and classes to the press. (via HITC)
Minaj was visibly emotional and seemed to be holding back the tears because of Liz's story. The teacher even jokingly claimed that she "taught Nicki everything she knows," including the Queen of Rap's dance moves - sending Minaj into a wild laugh.
In a 2017 shared post, Minaj said that Liz Smith "changed her life" as her fifth-grade teacher. Nicki was giving her support at the time to Smith's son, who had gone viral for being bullied by his classmates.
