A news outlet mistakenly reported that Jerry Lee Lewis died.
Lewis' fans were left shocked after a news report regarding his alleged death surfaced. A site claimed it received a tip from someone, who claimed to be the singer's representative, saying that he had already died.
But it immediately addressed the error and clarified that the legendary singer is still alive. Pop Culture quoted the erratum and said that Lewis currently resides at his Memphis home.
Lewis' family has not commented on the error yet, but they announced last week that Lewis could not attend the Country Music Hall of Fame, where he was supposed to be inducted personally.
Instead, he released a statement to express his gratitude after becoming the recipient of the highest honor in country music.
"I am honored to be going into that Hall of Fame rotunda with some of my heroes - Hank Williams Sr., Jimmie Rodgers, and the like - not to mention so many amazing friends who have been so good to me through the years," he said.
He also thanked the Country Music Hall of Fame and God for bringing him such an honor while he is still alive.
Instead of Lewis - who is known as "The Killer" - country music stars Hank Williams Jr. and Kris Kristofferson attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the 87-year-old crooner.
The organization also honored Lewis by having Chris Isaak sing his version of "Great Balls of Fire."
Jerry Lee Lewis' Fans React to Confirmation That He's Still Alive
Following the clarification that Lewis is not dead, his colleagues and fans celebrated but still sent their wishes to the singer amid his health issues.
For what it's worth, Taste of Country quoted Hall of Fame CEO Kyle Young's announcement that revealed Lewis would miss the ceremony per his doctors' advice. The medical experts reportedly urged the singer to stay at home instead.
Lewis has been showing his strength in the past years. Instead of retiring, he continuously works on his music and shares his talent with his fans.
In 2006, he dropped his hit duets album, "Last Man Standing." Years later, he released his 41st studio album.
These milestones caused him to earn a Lifetime Achievement Grammy and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to name a few.
