Jerry Lee Lewis, 87, has passed away.
The rock and roll superstar is best remembered for tunes like "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "Great Balls of Fire."
However, he was caught in the heart of a nasty family battle just years before his death.
The singer-songwriter sued his son-in-law for $1 million after he circulated stories about Jerry being abused by loved ones.
He and his family launched a lawsuit against Ezekiel Loftin, the spouse of his daughter Phoebe, for "untrue and inflammatory" Facebook statements against him.
Jerry's wife, Judith, their daughter Lori, and Jerry Lee Lewis III were all included in the lawsuit against Ezekiel, according to Radar Online.
Ezekiel claimed in one post that his family was "feeding Jerry medicines and keeping him locked away from reality" at his Nesbit, Mississippi, home.
"He has completely lost whatever hold he had on reality," Ezekiel argues, adding that police and adult protective services are not performing their job with proper attention.
In addition, the son-in-law accused the singer's wife of stealing Phoebe's jewels, while astonishingly stating that Jerry III is not his real son.
Jerry and his family responded with a $1 million defamation lawsuit, saying the son-in-law was exploiting the family name and inflicting emotional pain.
In 2016, a source close to the family said that the conflict became public when Jerry married Judith in 2012.
"It's just turned into a really horrible situation and has torn the family apart ... forcing Phoebe, who had been his caretaker, out of the picture."
Jerry Lee Lewis' complaint against Ezekiel was rejected when the judge found that it was "insufficient to establish particular jurisdiction" in Tennessee.
Jerry Lee Lewis was born in Louisiana and grew up listening to blues and brass bands. He was noted for his distinctive style, which combined his pianist background with swinging, uplifting songs that spanned the gap between rockabilly and what is now known as rock 'n' roll.
Jerry Lee Lewis died as a result of natural causes, according to their spokesman.
However, hesuffered from muscular dystrophy from 1956 until 2010. It is a very uncommon neuromuscular disorder that often starts in childhood and gradually robs a person of movement.
Jerry Lee Lewis had a net worth of $2 million at the time of his death, including a Las Vegas mansion.
