"Stranger Things" have taken the whole world by storm after it debuted on Netflix in 2016.
Since then the ensemble of actors has been well-received and well-loved by fans all over the world. These include a roster of SAG-winning child actors including Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, and Gaten Matarazzo, among many others.
It has also helped relaunch the career of 80s sweetheart Winona Ryder, who plays the distressed Joyce Byers, the mother of Noah Schnapp and Charlie Heaton characters throughout the series; and David Harbour, who plays the embattled Hawkins Police sheriff.
Like Heaton, the teenage characters of the show have also captured the hearts of the viewing public with their acting prowess alongside the younger cast. Natalia Dwyer, Joe Kerry, Maya Hawke, Joseph Quinn, and even Jamie Campbell Bower were also part of the ensemble cast that has truly catapulted the show to the cult classic that it is now.
While the main cast was there to stay (not all, though), fan-favorite character Barb Holland, played by Shannon Purser, had been the subject of many fans' heartbreak in the show's first season because of her tragic and shocking death.
While there may not be an inkling of hope that Barb would be alive in the upcoming fifth and final season, Jonathan Hogue, the producer, and writer of the campy musical "Stranger Sings," found a way to avenge the slain character in an off-Broadway satirical musical.
"Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical" is a hilarious up-side down take on the Netflix classic, dressed with its campy 1980s glory.
According to CNET, the off-broadway show already made its way to the United Kingdom and Australia for its limited run in the country.
"When I started exploring this series as a parody musical, the songs and story beat all fell into place so naturally, as if the show was meant to be musicalized, and parodied, from the beginning," says Hogue, a big fan of the Duffer brothers' creation, which ended its fourth season in August. "Who doesn't want to see Joyce get a big brassy showstopper with her Christmas lights? Or Barb become a vengeful musical diva?" Hogue said in a statement, elaborating on his creative decisions on bringing the musical to life.
The campy musical is not to be missed, "Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical" earned seven awards from the 2021 BroadwayWorld Off/Off-Off Broadway Awards including Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Scene Design, and even Best New Musical.
