Nearly 40 years ago, Anita Baker released her iconic debut album, "Chapter 8," and now she is celebrating its anniversary by going on tour in 2023. This tour is the first time Baker will be going on a full-time tour since 1995. In 1986, Baker's fame ensue as she released her platinum-selling sophomore album, "Rapture." This album is where the Grammy-winning single, "Sweet Love", is included.
Baker's singing voice is classified as contralto, having a vocal range that's capable of extending the register to a minimum of three octaves. The singer has won a total of eight times in the Grammy awards.
"Looking forward to some crazy, lovely, hang time with my fans," she excitedly shared. "Gonna, bring some new music & some special guests, too."
According to reports, Baker's tour is to commemorate her debut album's 40th anniversary. The album was released in 1979.
Although it was not as successful as her succeeding albums, it put Baker on the map and launched her career in music.
'The Songstress'
Baker promised fans that she will perform beyond her debut album's tracklist.
According to Pitchfork, Baker will kick off her tour in Hard Rock Live at Hollywood, Florida on Feb. 11, 2023.
Fans are pumped to see the 64-year-old singer-songwriter. One even commented that she will be coming to New Orleans during Mardi Gras weekend.
"New Orleans is Mardi Gras weekend. Miss Baker knows how to start an epic weekend in an epic city," the fan wrote, to which Baker replied, "We are ready to party" in all capitalizations.
Some fans are hopeful that the singer will add more dates and locations to the current fifteen-date tour,

According to reports, this will mark Baker's first-ever return since acquiring her masters back in 2021.
Fellow musician, Chance The Rapper, helped her regain ownership of her masters, and even publicly thanked him during a Las Vegas show.
"Would you guys say hello to a friend of mine by way of the music industry, by way of helping me get a hold and ownership of my master records, Mister Chance The Rapper is right there," she said.
