Dua Lipa FIFA World Cup 2022 Performance
In the past few months, chatter on Twitter has been growing louder saying that the British popstar is set to perform and have a song at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
However, it seemed like the "Future Nostalgia" hitmaker had finally reached her breaking point and finally addressed the issue.
"I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiations to perform," she said in an Instagram story. "I will be cheering England on from afar."
However, Lipa's reason was quite poignant and very straightforward, saying that "I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup."
Earlier this year, the FIFA World Cup 2022 had been plagued with human rights controversy. According to Yahoo Sports, the middle eastern country had been criticized for doing "modern-day slavery" in an effort to build the infrastructure suited to host the highly-anticipated sporting event in the country because of the lack thereof.
A The Guardian report has also been unleashed unearthing the inhumane living conditions of Nepalese migrant laborers that are working to build the infrastructure. Bribery allegations against sports execs were also thrown into the mix following the finalization of the decision.
Yahoo says that US prosecutor Michael Garcia has spent two years investigating the corruption allegations involving what seemed to be the most controversial World Cup to date.
Meanwhile, rumors of Nicki Minaj performing at the FIFA World Cup 2022 have also been up in the air. The rap queen is said to have a song with Colombian singer Maluma and Lebanese singer Myriam Fares. Recently, Nicki seemingly confirmed the news on Instagram.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place at Al Bayt Stadium in Doha, Qatar with the host nation's tournament opener against Ecuador.
