Brandy makes a comeback to the silver screen as Cinderella again! The singer-actress was announced to star in Disney's upcoming movie "The Pocketwatch," and she is not the only singer who was cast for a role.
Rita Ora was also cast in the movie, and is set to play the evil Queen of Hearts from "Alice in Wonderland."
Deadline reported that "The Pocketwatch," which is a working title, is a music and dance-filled Disney original movie, and is the sequel of the "The Descendants" franchise.
Other cast members include China Anne McClain, Dara Reneé, Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, Ruby Rose Turner, Morgan Dudley, Joshua Colley, and Melanie Paxson.
Following the concept of the earlier movies of the franchise, "The Pocketwatch" will also be following Disney's most famous and notorious characters. According to reports, the synopsis highlighted that the movie is an "imaginative mythology" that will take place in two fictional lands, Auradon and the Isle of the Lost.
Brandy's Comeback
This is not Brandy's first time playing the role of Disney's iconic princess, Cinderella. In 1997, she played the role in the television version of "Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella", making her the very first black actress to play the coveted magical role, reports say.
Her role in the movie earned her a nomination for NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-series or Dramatic Special.
It also happened to be the first of many succeeding roles at the box office. In 1998, she was cast in "I Know What You Did Last Summer," which earned her a nomination for MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance and Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Actress under the horror category.
Her other filmography includes "Double Platinum" released in 1999, "Osmosis Jones" in 2001, "Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor" in 2013, "The Perfect Match" in 2016, "Best. Christmas. Ever" in 2022.
However, before she fully launched her acting career, Brandy's first love was music. She released her debut album "Brandy" in 1994, and has consistently released albums throughout the years, with her most recent album "B7" was released in 2020.
Despite having several albums out, Brandy has only embarked on two world tours, the Human World Tour in 2009 and Slayana World Tour in 2016, as she is mainly focusing on her acting career.
