Chris Brown lashed out at social media after learning that his memorial performance at the 2022 American Music Awards had been canceled.
He informed his millions of fans that he had no idea why he had been canceled.
But now that a comprehensive behind-the-scenes story has surfaced, fans will finally understand why the "With You" singer's performance was unexpectedly stopped by Disney/ABC moments before the event began.
Chris, who won "Favorite Male R&B Artist" at the AMAs this year, attended multiple award presentations despite pleading guilty to beating his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
According to Puck media founder Matthew Belloni, it "would have been the first time in the #MeToo era, since the BET Awards in 2017, that a televised show had invited him to perform."
Producers also wanted to give the 33-year-old musician a chance to appear on stage after he felt he had been "shadow-banned" from Hollywood.
The writer stated on his website that he approached the executives about the optics of the performance, given that Michael Jackson's song "Beat It" will be featured in Chris' medley performance.
He further wrote, "The upshot: Disney wasn't opposed to Brown performing, it was just the pairing of this artist with this material that would be potentially radioactive and thus a nonstarter," before stating that the "Call Me Every Day" singer was solely interested in executing his rehearsed performance and not altering gears at the last second, sharing a video from their rehearsals a day before he was scheduled to perform.
"WOULD'VE been the ama performance but they canceled me for reasons unknown," Chris said in his post.
A spokesman for Dick Clark Productions stated that live shows are always changing and that Chris was not solely to blame.
According to Matthew, they told him that the element of the awards ceremony didn't come together because they couldn't agree on the performance - and that it's not Chris Brown's fault.
Meanwhile, Kelly Rowland accepted Chris' award after winning one at the AMAs on Sunday because he boycotted the event.
The former Destiny's Child singer admonished the booing crowd for being upset over Chris' victory, while Kelly offered his accolades, eliciting conflicting emotions on social media.
When TMZ questioned Kelly why she stood up for Chris, she stated that everyone deserves a second chance and that people need to be humble.
