Toby Keith revealed his current health status after receiving a dreaded health diagnosis.
In the past months, Keith has been enduring a debilitating health issue that led to the cancelation of some of his shows. He shocked his fans when he revealed earlier this year that he was taking a break from the music industry to focus on his treatment and recovery.
Recently, he finally gave the public an update regarding his stomach cancer battle through his candid interview with "CMT Hot 20 Countdown."
In the show preview, Keith said he is working on getting back in shape again before revealing his plans for his career. Still, he reportedly needs more time to make it happen.
"I need a little bit of time to just rest up and heal up. It's pretty debilitating to have to go through all that, but as long as everything stays hunky-dory, then we'll look at something good in the future," he said.
Keith first confirmed his diagnosis in a statement he posted in June. At that time, he disclosed that he had been receiving chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery in the last six months to save himself from the dreaded illness.
He also shared the news on his Instagram page.
Toby Keith's health issue, stomach cancer, has different types. According to the American Cancer Society, it can start in the organ before developing in other parts of the body. But it can also develop from the gland cells in a person's innermost lining of the stomach, and it is called adenocarcinoma.
Toby Keith Returns to Music Little by Little
Before his recent interview, Keith made a surprise appearance at Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse in Lexington, Kentucky, where he performed the songs "Sweet Home Alabama" and "I Love This Bar."
The restaurant owner expressed gratitude toward Keith and praised him for his brave cancer battle.
The singer also impressed everyone when he was honored with the BMI Icon Award at the 2022 BMI Awards.
Amid his cancer battle, Keith makes sure to help people in need through Toby Keith Foundation. He launched it in 2006 to support children who have cancer. He shared a picture of him beside a cancer patient to mark Giving Tuesday and thanked everyone for donating to his charity.
He said that the most recent donations would go to OK Kids Korral, which he founded in 2014 to support pediatric cancer patients and give them their needs.
