Earlier this year, the hip-hop community was shocked to know that two of the biggest rappers today were arrested in a sweeping indictment that had 28 associates of the Young Slime Life Records behind bars.
Young Thug and Gunna were believed to have held commanding positions in the said recording company, which prosecutors believe to be disguised as a gang conducting illegal activities.
Despite numerous attempts to plead for release before his eventual trial in January 2023, Young Thug and Gunna were denied bond release.
Last week, Gunna pleaded guilty to an Alford plea. The plea can also be referred to as the "best interest" plea, where the accused, in this case, Gunna, maintained his innocence of the alleged crime while accepting the plea and repercussions of the same guilty verdict.
Now, Young Thug's brother, Quantavious Grier, who goes by the name Unfoonk, was the next one to have pleaded guilty to violating the RICO act. Apart from this, Grier has also pleaded guilty to theft by receiving stolen property. (Via Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Like Gunna and Walter Murphy, Grier's sentence will be commuted, meaning the months he has spent in jail after being indicted will be commuted or lessened on his actual sentence.
For Grier, his 12-year sentence was split into two years of serving time behind bars and ten years under probation. Aside from this, he will also serve 750 hours of community service, be imposed with a curfew, and shall lose contact with his brother, Young Thug, and all the other people involved in the sweeping indictment.
According to Variety, Grier is the fifth person out of the 28 indicted members of the YSL to have pleaded guilty to the massive RICO case thrown at them.
Gunna, on the other hand, was egged on social media after being the first one to plead guilty - saying that he snitched on his fellow brothers. However, based on the premise of the "Alford deal," Gunna pleads guilty to the case but retains his innocence on the case.
As for Young Thug, it was not revealed yet if he had received an offer to plead guilty to the same crimes. Pressure is heavier on Thugger as he is believed by prosecutors to be the leader of the supposed illegal gang.
If Young Thug opted to plead not guilty, he would be put on trial on January 2023, along with the other members of YSL still in jail and was denied bond release.
