Gunna's release from jail received mixed feedback from the hip-hop community, especially because of the nature of how he was released.
Earlier this week reports that the "Banking on Me" rapper was released from jail after accepting a "best interest" deal from the prosecution.
Gunna was sentenced to five years in prison for accepting the plea deal. However, one year is already subtracted from it as he had already served seven months since he was arrested earlier this May 2022.
He was included in a sweeping indictment for Conspiring to Commit a RICO Act in Atlanta, Georgia, including Young Thug and members of the Young Slime Life Records.
But since his release, fans of the Gunna and Young Thugs have perceived his release as "snitching" or throwing his gang friends under the bus, conspiring that an under-the-table agreement and cooperation took place guaranteeing Gunna's release.
"While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way," Gunna said in a statement clearing out his name.
Young Thug's sister, Dolly White, defended Gunna on the move he made.
"Can y'all please stop saying then people write it and this and that? It's not making anybody better or nothing good. Nothing that's going on is helping my brother. So can y'all please stop that. If y'all love Gunna, then y'all give him support. Why the fuck y'all over there y'all tripping. It be the internet for me," she said in a statement.
The defense came days after rappers like Boosie Badazz, Wack100, and Freddie Gibbs took to social media to voice out that Gunna cooperated with the cops to secure a favorable agreement.
"Rap full of snitches, so y'all gon welcome this nigga home with open arms," Freddie Gibbs said in a flurry of tweets." "Pushin plea."
But with the remaining four years on Gunna's sentence, it is still likely that he would receive 500-day community service or reduced special terms for the special plea deal he took.
