After four years of being inactive because of the death of their drummer Pat Torpey, Mr. Big is finally gearing up for a reunion comeback slated for 2023.
Rumors about Mr. Big having a reunion comeback have been going on for some time now, thanks to Eric Martin hinting so much about it in recent months.
The rock band's lead vocalist has been very coy with his hints. In an interview with Radio Futuro, he said, "[...] I'm here to tell you that there is a rumor. Did I start this rumor? I don't know."
"I believe that there are big things coming. I keep saying that, and I want people to believe me that we're not down for the count. It's not over. I think we've got some things to do," he added.
Just like their fans, Mr. Big has been dying to come back and release new music for years, but perhaps patience really is key, because Martin finally confirmed their reunion comeback-and here's the catch: they've enlisted a new drummer.
New Drummer
During Martin's interview with Blabbermouth, the singer revealed that not only is Mr. Big coming back, but they are also gearing up for a tour.
"Well, look, Mr. Big is definitely gonna happen. There's no question about it. It's gonna happen in the middle of 2023," Martin said.
"Paul is involved - obviously, Paul Gilbert, the original guitar player. [Bassist] Billy Sheehan... The spirit of Pat Torpey. And there will be a phenomenal drummer."
He did not, however, reveal who will be taking the drummer's position, although he did note that it won't be Matt Starr, who played with the band in the past.
The lead singer had nothing but good things to say about the mystery drummer. He also hinted that "everybody know him" and that he is a big fan of Mr. Big's original drummer, Torpey.
While Martin was reluctant to give out the drummer's name, he did reveal what made Mr. Big choose him to be the one who will fill Torpey's shoes.
"I will tell you that he sent an audition video. And I watched it. It was 'Lucky This Time', which is a song that we hardly ever did - mainly me, because it was really hard to sing it.
"And what he did was he thought he'd one-up the audition, so he played drums on it and he sang the lead and the harmonies on everything. And it was phenomenal."
