Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" is a crowd favorite. It's in every playlist and is currently reigning over the music charts, and thanks to all the streams, she just reached a career milestone!
In a recent Billboard charts update, the singer's iconic Christmas song reigned over the Billboard Hot 100 for an 11th total week at No. 1.
With this news, Carey's record for the most weeks of an artist ranking at first place on the chart, Carey is now a record holder of having her song on No. 1 for the most weeks with 90 under her belt.
The singer-songwriter was thrilled with the news, and could not help but gush in disbelief: "I can't even handle this news.. I'm jumping up and down in the snow!"
"Meanwhile Cha Cha is swimming around and Mutley is howling like a kid running around in circles feeling our energy," the 53-year-old wrote in a social media post.
Christmas Controvery
According to reports, aside from this new milestone, Carey also pushed past Adele for the most single-day streams on the music streaming app, Spotify.
This update came on Christmas Eve as well, the perfect Christmas present for the unofficial Queen of Christmas!
While each year, there are different Christmas songs that accompany "All I Want for Christmas," the cult favorite song sits comfortably atop the charts year after year.
However, the song, although wildly successful has its own set of controversies following it.
Carey's co-writer for the song, Walter Afanasieff, had some pretty nasty things to say about the "Hero" singer, reports say.
"She doesn't play anything, she doesn't play the keyboard or piano. She doesn't understand music, she doesn't know chord changes and music theory or anything like that. She doesn't know a diminished chord from a minor seventh chord to a major seventh chord," he said, debunking Carey's claims that she came up with the melody for the song using a keyboard.
Carey then fired back at her co-writer, through a statement released by her representative: "Mariah has never claimed to write 'All I Want for Christmas' by herself or as a child. She has always credited Walter, as he is cited as a writer on the song, so that would be ridiculous."
