Zayn Malik finally headed back to the recording studio and is currently working on his new album, which is expected to drop very soon.
Pop Base surprised fans by sharing an obtained screenshot of an announcement: "Zayn is currently working on his highly anticipated fourth studio album."
The announcement was met with mixed reactions from the singer's fans and critics, as some were excited to know Malik is coming back with new material.
"Yes oh my god," a fan wrote, inserting a fan-made video compilation of the singer.
"Can't wait to hear one of the best vocalists of his generation's new album," another added.
On the other hand, there were others who weren't as enthused: "I wouldn't say highly anticipated. His fans didn't even care about the last album."
Some poked fun at the One Direction alum, "I haven't heard anything from Zayn since "Pillowtalk.""
"Define 'highly anticipated,'" another quipped.
A fan was disheartened to see the negativity against the "Pillow Talk" singer and defended him: "What's everyone on? Zayn's amazing, his albums are so well-written and he's an incredible singer. I doubt his new album is going to be any different in terms of songwriting and singing."
Although most of Malik's albums haven't been as widely popular or highly successful, the singer boasts a loyal and solid fandom that has been supporting him even back in his One Direction days.
Long Wait
Malik has released three albums: "Mind of Mine" in 2016, "Icarus Falls" in 2018, and "Nobody is Listening" in 2021.
According to reports, the 29-year-old's most recent album did not reach the top 40 on the Billboard 200 chart, which is probably why netizens kept pointing out that the singer's music flopped.
However, Uproxx noted that "Nobody is Listening" was released during one of the most turbulent times in Malik's personal life-when he was in the middle of a legal battle with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid and her mother, Yolanda.
Malik first rose to prominence after being part of the British boy group One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne.
The group placed third on "The X Factor" in 2010, however, they went on to become one of the biggest boy groups, releasing five studio albums, and going on four tours.
Malik left One Direction in 2015, and pursued a solo career. He announced the release of his debut studio album, "Mind of Mine," exactly a year to the day he left the boy group.
Currently, One Direction is on an indefinite hiatus, with all the other members pursuing solo careers.
