While 2022 became a massive breakthrough for some artists in the music industry, it became a year of mourning for those in the hip-hop community.

This is because several rappers, both up-and-coming and veterans, have tragically passed away this year.

Even before, the hip-hop community has been notorious for seeing talented artists succumbing to death because of murder linked to gang fights, drug overdose, and even medical accidents.

Here are ten rappers who passed away this year who's passing shocked the music scene.

TDott Woo

Brooklyn up-and-coming rapper Tdott Woo passed away last February 2022 after being fatally shot hours after he signed a record deal with Million Dollar Music, supposedly his first-ever music deal.

Jay DaYoungan

24-year-old Jay DaYoungan was another victim of a shoot-out. The newbie rapper died after sustaining several gunshots, eight to be exact, while he was sitting on his front lawn in Bogalusa, Louisiana home by armed gunmen.

Snootie Wild

Snootie's death was a shocking one. On February 2022, he was found in a ditch with gunshot wounds on his neck. He was rushed to the hospital in a critical state but died a day after.

DJ Kay Slay

Although DJ Kay Slay was not technically a rapper, his influence and impact in the hip-hop community were deeply valued. At the start of the year, his brother reported that he has contracted COVID-19 and is already in a "recovery state." However, it was in April that he passed away because of complications due to COVID-19.

Trouble

Trouble's death was bemoaned by the hip-hop community because he was stuck in a domestic dispute between a female friend of hers and her boyfriend. He was shot during a home invasion by his female friend's boyfriend.

Lil Keed

Keed's death has been a mystery for his fans. It was not revealed right away how he died. However, the rapper's mother revealed in a later post that he died of natural causes, pointing out that no drugs or alcohol were found in his system.

Big Scarr

Big Scarr passed away just earlier this month. Per reports the Memphis rapper died because of an accidental prescription overdose, which he presumably used to medicate his traumatic spine injury and depression.

PnB Rock

PnB Rock's death was simply tragic and heroic if some would say. Dining peacefully at Roscoe's House of Chicken 'N Waffles in Los Angeles, he threw his girlfriend down the table to fend off robbers and ended up being fatally shot shortly after.

Coolio

The Grammy-award-winning rapper stunned the world when he was announced dead. The "Gangsta's Paradise" was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor. Eventually, the autopsy revealed that he might have suffered cardiac arrest. Despite being known to have a drug addiction, overdose was ruled out as a cause of death.

Takeoff

Perhaps the most shocking death that came this year was Takeoff. Spending a playful night in Houston with Quavo and his gang, the Migos rapper was gunned down by a member of the opposing gang that got into a fight with them. The trial for Takeoff's suspect is currently ongoing.

Rest in peace to all the rappers who passed away this year. Their talent and presence will surely be missed by their fans and the hip-hop community.
