Anita Pointer is dead.

The Pointer Sisters' vocalist from the 1970s and 1980s passed away on New Year's Eve in Los Angeles at the age of 74.

Anita died with her family at her side, according to her spokesman Roger Neal.

Her other sister June passed away in 2006, and her sister Bonnie, who co-founded the group in the late 1960s, passed away in 2020.

"While we are very grieved by the passing of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her sisters June & Bonnie and at peace," her family said in an emotional statement.

They said that since Anita is "there," heaven is now a "lovely beautiful place."

Anita's daughter Jada, who was the subject of their 1973 song "Jada," died in 2003 from pancreatic cancer. Following Jada's death, Anita raised her only grandchild, Roxie.

After making the statement public, her family pleaded with followers to maintain their privacy during this trying time.

Anita Pointer reportedly departed the band in 2015 due to ill health, according to The Daily Mail.

In a 2019 interview with Variety, Anita commended the new cast and said, "They are performing some wonderful shows and have gone all over the world, without me."

In 1969, Bonnie and June Pointer founded the duet The Pointer Sisters.

Later, Anita Pointer joined the group forma. Before sister Ruth changed it into a quartet in 1972, just before they reached their commercial zenith, the group was a trio.

The gifted sisters are said to have learned to sing at the Oakland, California, church where their father served as the pastor.

The Pointer Sisters' first smash song, "sure We Can," was on their 1973 first album.

Other top-charting songs that succeeded were "Fire," published in 1978, "He's So Shy," "Slow Hand," "Neutron Dance," and "Automatic and Jump," all of which were released in 1983, as well as "I'm So Excited," released in 1982.

The Pointer Sisters won three Grammy Awards during the course of their career.
