In an emotional interview on Thursday's Today Show, Shania Twain revealed the horrific sexual abuse she endured as a child at the hands of her stepfather.
The 57-year-old "You're Still The One" singer, who is currently promoting her album "Queen Of Me," stated for the first time in 2018 that her stepfather Jerry Twain had abused her.
Nonetheless, during an interview with Today host Hoda Kotb, Shania revealed the lasting trauma of the abuse, explaining how her stepfather's fondling as a child made her ashamed of her body.
Now, the legendary singer states that she is attempting to accept her body, which is why she posed naked for the album cover. She said she is her own boss.
Shania was unfamiliar with her biological father. In 1987, her stepfather Jerry and her mother Sharon perished in a car accident.
When asked what her album's title meant to her, the singer of That Don't Impress Me Much responded that it means taking responsibility and ownership of yourself.
During the interview, she also revealed that she chose nude photography for her album cover as a way to cope with the horrifying treatment she received from her stepfather as a child.
She stated that it is really about saying she was abused as a child.
She explained that her stepfather would fondle her on my chest and force her to go shirtless when she was already an adult. This cringe-worthy desire to flee from her own skin, resulted.
She continued that it's time for her to begin loving herself in her own skin and truly embracing that without being embarrassed or shy. This is her identity.
Additionally, Twain said that its all about loving who she is and being her own sovereign. She is responsible for the decisions she makes, the words she say, and the actions she engage in.
The five-time Grammy winner then elaborated on the importance of self-confidence at this point in her life, stating that 'it's more important than ever'
For the photoshoot for her new album, she decided to go "full monty."
The most recent release by Twain evokes her signature sound and vocal range. In imitation of her legendary song "Man! I Feel Like A Woman," the country star produced yet another irresistible song for the dance floor and even brought back the iconic exclamation mark in "Giddy Up! "
