Four music industry icons will be awarded at the upcoming Grammys Black Music Collective 2023 at the upcoming Grammy Week.
According to Variety, hip-hop legends Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone will receive distinction at the Recording Academy Honors Presented by the Black Music Collective event.
The Black Music Collective is an advisory group of music industry leaders who will speak openly about new and emerging opportunities in Black music and identify ways to drive Black representation. It is a hub for power players in Black music, across all genres, all under the GRAMMY roof, bringing together creators and business leaders to set unified goals, align on a shared agenda and build community. Rhone, who is also a member of the Black Music Collective Honorary Chairs is an American music industry executive, responsible for the success of Epic Records, one of the biggest music labels in the industry to date.
"I am so thrilled to honor and celebrate these four giants in the music industry. Last year's inaugural event was such a highlight during Grammy Week and now with Dre, Missy, Wayne, and Sylvia there to pay tribute to this year, it's definitely going to be another night to remember. I continue to be proud of the work of our Black Music Collective as it's a vital part of what we do here at the Academy," The Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement.
Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, and Missy Elliott are considered a few of the most revered hip-hop artists of the past few decades. Their impact, influence, and contribution to the industry have transcended the new wave and generation of rappers and artists that have taken inspiration from them.
Dre has proved himself as a mogul after signing acts like Eminem and 50 Cent, and frequent collaborators of Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige, among many others. Lil Wayne, on the other hand, the CEO of Young Money Entertainment has produced acts like Nicki Minaj and Drake, among a plethora of rappers. Meanwhile, Elliott has etched herself as one of the biggest female rappers of all time, paving the way for the new generation of female hip-hop artists.
The Black Music Collective event will take place on Feb. 2, 2023, at the Hollywood Palladium.
