Rapper Young Thug has been in jail since May 2022 after being arrested following a grand jury indictment alleging them of conspiring to violate Georgia's RICO act.

After several attempts to secure bond release, Thugger was turned down every time. The prosecution accuses Young Thug, formally known as Jeffrey Williams, of being the mastermind behind YSL Records, who is also believed to have been operating as a gang in Atlanta, Georgia.

Last December, the other members of YSL Records, including his closest associates like Gunna, and Walter Murphy, among many others, took on a plea deal in exchange for a commuted sentence. Williams, however, was not offered one, as the prosecution has unleashed a crackdown on him as he is pressed to be the person behind the many felony charges.

Now, days before his trial is finally taking place; a rather unnecessary proceeding will be taking place as a potential juror has allegedly contacted one of Williams' lawyers.

According to HiphopDX, Williams' lawyer claimed that one of the jurors in his RICO case attempted to reach him.

The questionable deed came after it was reported on the fifth day of jury selection. Brian Steele, the lawyer in question, claimed that a juror sent an email warranting a judge to order a probe.

Law & Order's Cathy Runson reported the development, saying Steele has not responded to the alleged jury, and the judge has already issued court personnel to investigate.

The publication also noted that the Young Thug trial had experienced difficulties as jurors had been especially difficult to choose because of how lengthy the trial is expected to run. Initial estimates say it could take six to nine months, give or take.

The witness list for Young Thug's trial has also sparked attention in the past few weeks after it was revealed online. Around 28 witnesses, including music executives, rappers, entrepreneurs, city councilman are expected to take the stand.

YFN Lucci, one of Thugger's nemeses, was also rumored to be taking the stand. However, his lawyer debunked this initial rumor saying that his client is not in any capacity involved in Young Thug's trial.

According to Uproxx, these are Young Thug's criminal charges:

  • one count of conspiracy to violate Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act,
  • possession of a firearm while committing a felony,
  • possession of a machine gun,
  • two counts of participating in a criminal street activity,
  • three counts of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and;
  • one charge of street racing.
