Trace Adkins has been around in the country music industry for decades already, and he had made quite a name for himself as both a singer and someone who's been into one too many accidents.

In his recent interview with People magazine, the "You're Gonna Miss This" singer dished out exactly how he picks himself back up.

"Early in my career, I took my dad out on the road for a week or two, and somebody came up to me and said, 'Your old man reminds me of John Wayne,'" Adkins recounted.

"I said, 'S**t, my old man makes John Wayne look like a [wimp].' I think I'm very much like my daddy was."

Legendary actor John Wayne was known during the golden era of American movies and was often linked to cowboy roles.

Just like Wayne, Adkins is an actor, and maybe just as tough as the characters Wayne played in some of his movies.

Before and during the height of his career, Adkins faced several incidents and hardships.

According to reports, the country star was 17 when he first got into his first life-threatening incident. He got into a serious car accident, which resulted in broken ribs, punctured lungs, and his nose was injured pretty badly.

During his years in college, he got injured once again and was kicked out of his football team since he could no longer play.

This perhaps changed the trajectory of his life from sports to music. However, while his music career struggled to take off, he worked several other jobs, some of which were pretty dangerous.

He once worked on an oil rig, and he reflected on what that experience was like: "It was assh***s and elbows. You worked 12 hours a day, and somebody was breathing down your neck, so you had to work as fast as you could. And then, the next morning, you had to get up and do it again."]

During his stint at the oil rig, he cut off his pinky finger and crushed his left leg.

Adkins shared how his doctors had to "fuse" his finger back so he could still play the guitar.

"I cut it off when I was working offshore on a drilling rig," he explained. "Then, when they put it back on, it wasn't going to work anymore, so they just had to fuse the joints. So, I showed him how I wanted it."

While he worked another job, he got injured once again. In 1982, he almost lost both his legs in a bulldozer accident.

In 1990, he was shot in the chest as he tried to disarm his wife, who pointed a gun at him.

Despite the numerous times the singer faced death, he managed to survive each and every hurdle that came his way.

"It wasn't my time to go," he said. It was painful, but it didn't sear my memory. The physical pain - broken bones and surgeries and bullets and getting beat up and cut - has never really bothered me. I have a high tolerance for it. It's the broken hearts that left the deepest scars."

Now, at 61 years old, Adkins is in a much better-and safer-place, as he no longer has to work dangerous life-risking jobs. He is regarded as one of the most talented country singers, with a reported net worth of $19 million.
