Amy Winehouse will come alive in an upcoming biopic, "Back to Black" with the help of Marisa Abela who is set to portray the "Stronger Than Me" singer.

The upcoming biopic is the first feature film about the late music icon. Still, there have been several documentaries about her released in recent years, with the most prominent one "Amy" released in 2015, four years after her death.

Reuters reported that "Back to Black" will follow Winehouse's shortlived career and life, particularly on her "vibrant years living in London in the early aughts and her intense journey to fame."

"As a filmmaker, you can't really ask for more. I feel excited and humbled to have this opportunity to realize Amy's beautifully unique and tragic story to cinema accompanied by the most important part of her legacy - her music," said Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of the upcoming biopic.

"I am fully aware of the responsibility, with my writing collaborator - Matt Greenhalgh - I will create a movie that we will all love and cherish forever. Just like we do Amy."

The biopic's production will kick off in London on Jan. 16, under the helm of the filmmaking duo Greenhalgh and Taylor-Johnson, who first united for "Nowhere Boy," a biopic about a young John Lennon.

Perhaps their work in Lennon's biopic was sufficient proof that the pair could pull off Winehouse's biopic because the late singer's estate was thrilled to hear about "Back to Black."

"We are thrilled that Studiocanal, Focus Features, and Monumental are making this movie celebrating our daughter Amy's extraordinary music legacy and showcasing her talent in the way that it deserves," the estate said in a statement.

Several big names in the film industry jumped in to produce "Back to Black," including Alison Owen and Debra Hayward, as well as Nicky Kentish-Barnes, Ron Halpern, and Joe Naftalin, Variety reported.

Everyone seems to be n high spirits after the announcement of "Back to Black," especially Abela who shared a picture of herself next to a mural of Winehouse located in Camden Town, North of London, where the late singer lived.

"'And for London. This is for London. Cause Camden Town ain't burnin' down,'" she wrote in the Instagram post caption. "I love you, Amy."

Winehouse was 27 years old when she met her untimely demise in 2011. She died from alcohol poisoning, and her death was mourned by many.

She was a beloved singer and songwriter, in fact, she influenced the likes of Adele and Billie Eilish.

Winehouse is also the subject of numerous documentaries, including the critically acclaimed 2015 documentary, "Amy."
