The last time Miley Cyrus hit No. 1 was when she released her highly controversial, yet catchy song "Wrecking Ball" back in 2013, can she reclaim the top spot with her newest single "Flowers"?
According to Official Charts, Cyrus' "Flowers" placed second to Raye's "Escapism," but seems like it can bump the song out of the No. 1 spot any day now.
And understandably so, because "Flowers" is currently the No. 1 song on the US iTunes Song Sales Chart, and it also happens to be performing very well on the music streaming platform, Spotify.
Headline Planet notes that "Flowers" is reigning over three different Spotify playlists, namely New Music Friday, Pop Rising, and Today's Top Hits-and these playlists are based on how much the song is being streamed by listeners, and the results are obviously in.
Clearly, Cyrus' new song-which also happens to be a jab at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth-is a smash hit among fans, and it is also gaining a lot of attention on TikTok.
New Era
According to Billboard, "Flowers" is the lead single off Cyrus' eighth studio album "Endless Summer Vacation."
It has become everyone's go-to song as it follows Cyrus' life and journey toward self-love after her bitter breakup with the actor.
Although the song is mostly interpreted as a breakup song, it focuses more on the singer's positive outlook post-relationship.
The first verse starts off: "We were good, we were gold/ Kinda dream that can't be sold/ We were right 'til we weren't/ Built a home and watched it burn."
But the part everyone seems to enjoy the most is the chorus: "I can buy myself flowers/ Write my name in the sand/ Talk to myself for hours/ Say things you don't understand/ I can take myself dancing/ And I can hold my own hand/ Yeah, I can love me better than you can."
According to reports, there is little to no doubt the song is indeed about Cyrus' ex, but a closer look at the lyrics indicates that it is actually a reference to Bruno Mars' 2013 song "When I Was Your Man," the same song Hemsworth dedicated to the "Midnight Sun" singer.
"Flowers" was released on Jan. 13, which also happens to be Hemsworth's birthday.
Fans praised Cyrus' attention to detail and joked about the situation on social media.
"Nothing funnier than Miley Cyrus releasing on Liam Hemsworth's birthday I know he's gonna get dragged through filth wrecking ball 2.0 here we come," a fan wrote.
