David Crosby wrote about a haunting yet heartbreaking post about the afterlife just days before he died.

The co-founder of Crosby, Stills & Nash (and later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) apparently passed away after his wife, Jan Dance, said in a statement that he had struggled with a protracted illness.

David allegedly passed away surrounded by those he loved, including his wife and their son Django.

"Although he is no longer with us, his humanism and loving nature will continue to lead and inspire us," according to a statement issued by his staff to Variety. "The famous music he created will carry on his legacy."

The rock icon is renowned for being quite active on social media, and one of his tweets discussed his beliefs.

The 81-year-old called heaven "overrated" in a tweet as fans flooded social media to remember his legacy.

The singer and guitarist said, "I heard the place is overrated... Cloudy," as he responded to a tweet that shared a screenshot of a Google search, "Can we go to heaven with tattoos?"

Then it identifies more categories that won't be included.

Fans who followed David Crosby on his extremely active Twitter were horrified to learn of his passing.

He made the announcement that he would no longer be able to conduct live shows due to advancing age eight months ago. "I don't have the endurance," he wrote in a tweet at the time. "I lack the necessary strength."

In a final image sent by his wife, David Crosby also appeared at peace. Four weeks ago, Jan posted a photo of her husband holding a dog. "Today" is written in the caption.

David Crosby's Health Issues

Over the years, David Crosby experienced a number of health problems. He had a liver transplant in 1994 as a result of substance misuse brought on by the band's travelling activities.

It's unclear, though, whether his prior health problems contributed to his passing.

The bandmate Graham Nash posted a message on his Facebook page expressing condolences, stating that David "leaves behind a big hole as far as pure personality and brilliance in this world." Tributes began to flood in on social media almost afterwards.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

The Byrds were founded in the middle of the 1960s by David Crosby together with Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clark.

After having a difficult time with the group, he ultimately quit in 1967 and went on to establish a close-knit band with Graham Nash and Stephen Stills, which they called CS&N. They put out their debut record, which went straight to platinum.

Later, in 1969, Neil Young joined the group, which led to an ego battle amongst everyone. The group would then split up, reassemble, and then release other albums.
