Metallica just released their latest new song, "Screaming Suicide," from their 11th album, "72 Seasons."

The song "Screaming Suicide" was released on Jan. 20, 2023, and is the second single from the band's newest album.

Like many songs from Metallica, "Screaming Suicide" packs a very important meaning from the band and to their listeners.

In a statement, Metallica elaborated on the reason why they named the song with the rather-controversial title.

According to vocalist James Hetfield, the song "Screaming Suicide" addresses the taboo word that is often avoided by many because of its sensitive nature. He also mentioned that the purpose of the song is to spark conversations among people that no one is alone in their struggles.

"The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside. It's ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another I believe most people have thought about it. To face it is to speak the unspoken. If it's a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone," Hetfield said in a statement as quoted by Billboard.

Upon the release of the song "Screaming Suicide" on multiple streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, Metallica also dropped its music video on YouTube. Directed by Tim Saccenti, the "Screaming Suicide" music video punches more meaning as it was shot in black and white.

"Whisper in your ears / "You are good enough" / Throwing down a rope / A lifeline of hope / Never give you up," Metallica sang.

As of this writing, the "Screaming Suicide" music video has already amassed almost three million views on YouTube, two days since it was published.

As part of their commitment to raise awareness on an unpopular topic, Metallica listed suicide prevention hotlines, contact numbers, websites, and agencies from Australia, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

The last time Metallica released their album was in 2016, titled "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts. This is their first album in seven years. "72 Seasons" will be released on Apr. 14, 2023.
