Over the past few months, U2 has been rumored to have an upcoming residency at the new MSG Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. Today, Bono is finally speaking out and confirming whether the band would perform in Sin City or not.
Speaking on the "Smartless" podcast along with Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, the musician broke his silence after the residency rumors swirled online.
It all began when Hayes claimed he spoke to Edge about an upcoming tour and the singer showed him renderings of the venue, saying it's going to be "unbelievable."
Bono, who appeared to be holding back from spilling all information because the residency has not yet been confirmed, responded jokingly by saying, "You are a news network now because that's breaking news."
"If we do sign off on this, I will say that if we can pull off what we're talking about, it's not like anything we've ever done before. It's nothing like Las Vegas has ever seen before," he added, before saying the show would be "really extraordinary" if ever it happens in the future. (via Rock 107)
As of this writing, U2's Las Vegas residency has yet to be confirmed and details behind the rumored shows aren't available to the public yet.
U2 Las Vegas Residency Rumors
The recent interview comes more than a month after rumors made rounds online regarding Las Vegas MSG Sphere's first performer.
It has been reported that U2 will be the first act to ever perform in the new high-tech music venue, which is set to open anytime around the latter half of 2023.
According to Market Scale, the concert venue is first of its kind as it would feature the world's biggest spherical structure and largest LED display.
Per NME, the residency would mark U2's first concert since 2019 if ever the rumors are true. The said concert dates would be spread throughout the year and would not be consecutive.
This isn't the first time Bono spoke about the rumors as he previously appeared on "The Brendan O'Connor Show," saying he can't announce anything, but if ever it happens in the future, he assured fans that it won't be like anything they have ever seen before.
"There's no place yet big enough. For us to go, it has to be something that no-one's ever gone [to] before," he added.
