Sir Rod Stewart revealed today on a television phone-in show that he has abandoned his long-time support for the Conservatives and is demanding Labour be given 'a chance' to govern the country.

The rock and pop icon made an unannounced appearance at a Sky News debate on the NHS crisis, when he criticized the "heartbreaking" status of the health sector.

The 78-year-old stated that it is a "terrible time" for the United Kingdom and that it is "crazy" that NHS people, fans included, are "dying because they cannot receive scans."

He even volunteered to personally pay for 10 or 20 hospital scans for NHS patients, when the television news station aired interviews with those enduring lengthy treatment waits.

Sir Rod Stewart claimed that he was prompted to call in to the program after attending a empty private clinic yesterday.

The "Maggie May" singer stated that this situation is crazy and made him decided that he would like to pay for 10 or 20 scans for others. He's not certain this can make a difference but he hopes others who can afford to do so would follow his example. He said it is absurd that this particular scanning facility was vacant and yet people are dying because they cannot receive scans.

He clarified that he does not need the attention; he just wants to do some good things, and he believes this is one of them.

He added that he would be delighted if others followed me.

Sir Rod indicated that the present NHS crisis had convinced him to shift his political stance. Sir Rod responded, when asked about recent strikes by NHS staff over a pay dispute, that he has been a Tory for a long time, but he thinks this government should step aside and allow the Labour Party a chance.

The rock legend explained that he contacted the Sky News program because he frequently has the television on in the background while working on his model railroad. Sir Rod stated that he was "so pleased to be British" and that he "cannot stomach it being this way."

Scans are really important; it's the reason why Stewart himself can ensure his health at his age. He's presently battling thyroid cancer, which was discovered around 4 years ago.

Doctors discovered a malignant tumor on Rod's thyroid gland, despite the fact that he maintained good health through frequent exercise. He said that it was a tremendous surprise, which made him went completely silent for a few days.

According to the NHS, thyroid cancer is a rare kind of cancer that affects the thyroid gland, which is a tiny gland located near the base of the neck.
